Mt. Lebanon School District is proud to announce five students who have been recognized as Semifinalists in the 72nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 students across the country were named Semifinalists and have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $24 million that will be offered next spring. 

MTLSD National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists are: Matthew Burton, Joseph Curran, Eve Magleby-Lambert, Hannah Markowitz, and Allie Miller.

To compete for National Merit Scholarships, Semifinalists must advance to the Finalist level of the competition by fulfilling several additional requirements. A Semifinalist can become a Finalist and compete for a Merit Scholarship award in only one program year.  About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

This June, two members of Mt. Lebanon High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter proudly represented Mt. Lebanon at the national level at the FBLA National Leadership Conference (NLC), held in San Antonio, Texas, from June 29th to July 2nd.  

Henry Mitchell and Barrett Jones, both of the Class of 2027, earned their spots at nationals after outstanding performances at preliminary competitions. Both students placed highly at the regional level before competing against students from across Pennsylvania at the state level, where they finished in the top four of their respective events to qualify for the national competition.

At the NLC, both students demonstrated their extensive dedication and knowledge of business when competing in their events. Mitchell competed in the test-based Data Science and AI event, while Jones participated in Journalism, also a test-based event. Reflecting on his experience in competition, Mitchell noted, “I enjoyed competing in my event because I was able to combine my interest in data science and artificial intelligence with their respective business applications.”

Both Mitchell and Jones valued the NLC as an opportunity to connect and network with high school students from across the country who share their passion for business. They enjoyed exchanging ideas and learning about other students’ experiences. 

The Mt. Lebanon community celebrates Mitchell and Jones for their accomplishments and for representing their school with distinction at the national level.

Run for a Reason: Hometown Torch Run - September 18, 2026

Join us for the Hometown Torch Run on Friday, September 18, at 9 a.m. as the Mt. Lebanon Police Department and Mt. Lebanon School District come together to support and raise awareness for Special Olympics Pennsylvania.

Business and community members are invited to participate in this approximately two-mile team run down Washington Road. The route begins at Washington and Cochran roads, continues to the Mt. Lebanon Public Safety Building, and finishes at Mt. Lebanon High School.

This is a team run, not a race! Everyone runs together as a group in support of Special Olympics athletes and the work of the organization.
