Congratulations to all participants of this year’s regional National History Day regional competition at the Heinz History Center. NHD is a challenging competition in which students use advanced research skills to explore historical topics. This year’s theme was "Turning Points in History."
Sophomore Sam Wetzel led the NHD club and presented research on the impact of the 1970s Steelers on Pittsburgh and the local economy. Freshman Julia Antunes won a 1st place award for her website dedicated to research on the impact of Proposition 187. Sean Harrington won a 2nd place award and a local history research special award for his exhibit on the impact of the Whiskey Rebellion. Matthew Harrold earned a 2nd place award for his paper on the impact of the Pennsylvania Rifle. Vanshika Jain won a special prize for excellence in historical research for her exhibit dedicated to research on the shift from indentured servitude to slavery. Students who received first and second place awards will move on to the state competition at the University of Scranton.
Please join sponsor Nicole Glover in congratulating all of these students on their hard work and excellent research.
