Volunteer

We love having families and neighbors in our schools. Keeping students safe means a few clearances first. Here's everything you need, in plain terms.

Program Volunteer

Works under a teacher or administrator with direct contact with students (think regular classroom or field-trip help).

Needs Full Clearances - See Below

Casual Volunteer

Helps occasionally and always alongside a teacher or administrator (a one-time event, a class party).

Steps To Obtain Your Clearances

Program volunteers need all three documents listed below.

Lived in PA for the past 10 years? Program volunteers may sign a 10-Year PA Resident Affidavit each year instead of the FBI clearance. State clearances renew every 5 years.

PA Child Abuse History Clearance

Apply online (Act 151). Start at the PA Compass portal.

Visit IdentoGO for information and locations of fingerprint sites. You will need a code to register. Here are the instructions to register on IndentoGo.

Once you have your clearances, use a computer or your smartphone to navigate to https://www.mtlsd.org/VolunteerApplication and submit an application to be a Program Volunteer!

MTLSD Volunteer Application

On the application, you will provide your information, upload your clearance documents, and provide your signature.

Your Program Volunteer application will then be reviewed and you will be contacted via email (same email you provide on the application) with next steps!

Good To Know

  • Renew every five years: Clearances older than five years need to be redone.
  • Casual volunteers: Sign the Casual Volunteer Affirmation once a year. No full clearances needed.
  • 10+ hours a week? Volunteers with frequent direct contact also need a recent TB test or physician's note.
  • Cost a barrier? Don't let it stop you. Contact Pat Connolly, Director of Business Operations (412-344-2098 · pconnolly@mtlsd.net). Requests are confidential.
  • Experiencing technical difficulties with the Raptor Program Volunteer Application? Contact Chris Stengel, Director of Technology (412-344-2089 · volunteer@mtlsd.net).
