What's that?
The Writing Lab is a resource for all stages of the writing process. The lab (B521) houses eight desktops in addition to ample space for students to work on their own devices. The lab is staffed with a full-time Writing Clinician, Mrs. Shine, who is certified in secondary English and holds a certificate in Teaching Writing. In addition to offering help with brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing written work through 1:1, full length writing confereces for English papers and all writing assignments across the curriculum, Mrs. Shine can help with college, scholarship, summer program and apprenticeship application essays; independent writing; and standardized testing essay preparation, including the SAT and ACT. Mrs. Shine also runs a Writing Coach program, encouarging student-to-student writing consultations.

In Mrs. Shine's twenty-four years of education, she has taught a variety of English, literature, and writing classes to high school students spanning two states and three buildings. She proudly holds a Bachelor of the Arts in literature from John Carroll University, a Master of the Arts in literature from Duquesne University, and a Teaching Writing Certificate from Johns Hopkins University. Mrs. Shine believes that all students are writers, and she also supports the Oxford comma.
How do I get there?
Come to room B521 and sign in with the Writing Lab Sign In QR code.
All students are welcome in the Writing Lab during their study halls, even if no writing help is needed.
Students wanting to work with Mrs. Shine are encouraged to make an appointment. However, pop-ins are accepted if Mrs. Shine is not working with other students.
What time?
Regular Hours:
Monday through Thursday: 7:30 am to 3:30 pm
Fridays: 7:30 am to 3 pm
Lab closed during 5th period unless appointment is made in advance
